RV, I don't know what you want from me. I tried to make this a better place for you and for everyone else. I value your opinion and I try to keep you happy, but I can only do so much, and if public outcry is against you, then I'm only willing to go so far for you. I try to come up with compromises to keep everyone happy but it seems you never are. When I originally made you your own forum, I didn't even consider giving you moderator privileges. It certainly wasn't part of my original idea. But I decided "hey, let's be nice and let him moderate it, it's not like he's really even going to do anything with mod powers anyway." It seems I was wrong, so I decided to take away that little added gift. You still have your own entire section of the site -- more than anyone else has here. If you're not happy because just having your own section isn't good enough unless you can moderate it, then I'm sorry, but you're simply demanding too much. I don't have to do any of this for you, so it would be really nice if you would just be happy with what you're given.

Dude, I used to have the entire site to post in.

Danny Stewart June 20, 2007 2:27 AM

You still do. Just in a slightly more controlled manner than what you were previously used to. I really don't see what the huge problem is.

How about we forget the slightly more controlled part and just delete "my" forum altogether. 'Cause seriously, I don't see why I can't moderate my own forum. If people don't want their posts edited, they shouldn't post in my forum >=]

Danny Stewart June 20, 2007 2:38 AM

That's just it -- some of them didn't. Some of them had posts moved there by me, so they have no choice. That's why Ross complained in the first place. The bottom line is this, though: I would be fine with giving you back your mod powers with the exception of editing posts. Deal?

I thought Ross was going to avoid my forum...? When a topic goes there, it's probably for a reason; and that reason probably is one that means Ross should avoid it. Unfortunately, it would seem he doesn't seem to possess the intelligence to work that (or much else for that matter) out for himself, meaning you have to play nanny and protect him from things he doesn't like.

Isn't the point of me having my own forum that so people can avoid my stuff? If they're not going to use their common sense and avoid my forum, it's not my problem. It's not your problem. It's their problem.

Perhaps there should be a warning in the forum description, to make it completely obvious, I don't know.

Insults like that are not welcome. You can say what you want to say in a far less condescending manner.

We could always go back to the usergroup idea. Then people like Ross wouldn't even be tempted to go looking because (presumably) he wouldn't join the usergroup. Or, if Ross would like, he could use the selective forum filter to hide your forum.

Which he should have done in the first place instead of complaining, hence preventing any kind of conflict. Not my fault if rationality isn't his strong point.

No, but it is your fault you're being unnecessarily harsh. Save it for your forum.

It's not like I'm lying.

Danny Stewart June 20, 2007 3:12 AM

No one said you were. I believe what was said was that you were being rude and unnecessarily harsh, which also is not lying. Stop it.

Recurring Villain June 20, 2007 3:18 AM

I'm now curious as to what other obvious stuff I can point out that would offend people ;)

But whatever, we really should talk on gtalk instead of spamming this thread.

Ross Hendrie June 20, 2007 9:43 AM

Didn't you read what Danny said to you? My posts were moved there, so I didnt have a choice about them being in your forum. I was - and still am - perfectly willing to not complain about what you do in your forum as long as you dont start spouting all your RVisms all over the site. It was only because you edited a post of mine that wasn't originally in the RV forum, and so I had no control over it being in there.

Is he still allowed to make fun of politicians and various musical artists outside his forum? If not a little bit of the combined soul of the internet just weeped. :(

Danny Stewart June 20, 2007 1:35 PM

Sure. Hopefully the only restriction outside of his forum will be that he'll have to be nicer to other members of the site.

Jez June 20, 2007 3:00 PM

Theoretically....
