Some updates

I have just gone through and done a total revamp of the forum permissions here on the site. It's very important for people to go around and check the forums that you usually visit and post in and make sure you can still do what you usually do. If anyone encounters any problems, please let me know right away so I can fix it quickly. Additionally, there are a couple of new forums around.

The first new forum is called Private Discussion. I have had some concern expressed to me recently about how certain posts about personal problems and other private matters are automatically readable to every registered user, even ones who have just registered and not even posted (complete strangers and the like). This is certainly a valid concern, and to respect the privacy of my members, I have created this new forum for private discussion. From now on, the Private Discussion forum will be a place for only the known and trusted members of the site to speak freely about potentially sensitive topics and issues that you might not just want anyone reading about. To get access to this forum, send me a PM and I'll make the necessary arrangements. In all likelihood, there won't be a whole lot that gets posted in there, but still and all, it's best for those of you concerned about privacy issues to have that option. Please feel free to contact me privately if you have any questions.

The second new forum is called The Recurring Forum. Essentially, it is a place where RV can be as RV-ish as he wants with no imposed consequences for doing something that might be construed as out of line. In exchange for that, he will have to restrain himself on the rest of the site and not post provocative stuff against Ross or anyone who might get offended. And stuff that is out of line can be moved to the Recurring Forum for continued discussion there. Hopefully this is an acceptable solution for everyone.

Hope you approve of the changes!

Sounds like a good idea. As of yet my parents haven't expressed any interest in this site(I mentioned it once in a conversation with my mom about my flash movies, that's why I brought that up) so I don't think I have to worry about any mentions of my girlfriend being moved to private.
But in that respect I think an even better course of action would be to just block off non-members from even viewing the forums, along with not joining... unless you've done that already.

As for the RV section...
I will be there often.
Can other people act RVish there too?

Of course. All ranges of RV behavior are welcome there.

As for non-members, the way it's currently setup is like this: unregistered users and people who are not logged in can see the forums and the titles of the threads inside those forums, but they cannot read any of the posts contained within the threads. Do you think that's good enough, or would you prefer even tighter restrictions?

Oh, no that's perfect. I was just curious.

I'm not sure having my own forum is going to work. A big part of being 'RV-ish' is making fun of people/things. Half the joke is people's reaction .

There are a few criteria having my own personal forum doesn't fulfill:

a. There's really only me in there. I can only make fun of myself so much.

b. Very few people can see it and/or would know about it (in the case of new members). The section should at least be public; if someone's stupid enough to read something in there, it isn't anyone's fault except their own. Further, if they're stupid enough to reply to something I wrote, then it just moves to a whole new level of funny.

c. Only little old ladies and people with a similar intellectual capacity get offended over the things as tame as my remarks.

Ideally a sizable portion of the members here will want to hang out with you in there.

As I said above, I think you're liked more than you're disliked on here, so I foresee a decent chunk of the userbase on here wanting to participate in fun-filled conversations with their friendly neighborhood Recurring Villain.

Okay, I'll give you this one. I'll make the Recurring Forum public.

Yeah, well, that's the world we live in. Not much I can do to fix that one.

Ah well, at least it's public now. We'll see how this goes. If the forum-wide humor level goes down, we'll need to rethink this matter.

I concur. In general, the idea is that you should exercise a modicum of restraint outside of your forum, but let loose as if the rules don't apply to you within your forum. Sound fair?

Danny's imagination and ideas for improvements know no bounds and never cease to amaze, will we see a visual representation before long? if you remember that old topic

Some of the topics which have been moved to the RV forum already contains posts from me which RV has taken to vandalising. I would like this stopped immediately.

Exactly -- thank you, James. Apparently Ross did not read the description of the forum.

RV can do whatever he wants in there with no regard for the rules. The whole point is to separate him from the rest of the forum. If you're going to be offended by what he says, stay out of his forum. That's the idea -- I would have thought that was pretty obvious.

You don't like it, stay out of his forum. I reintroduced the selective forum filter for exactly this reason. Go to User CP, go to Edit Options, and select the Recurring Forum out of the forum list. Out of sight, out of mind. If you have a problem, deal with it.

I didn't say i don't like it. But you're right, I am not the biggest fan of :sexism, ageism, racism, being stereotypical ,being predujist and discrimanting. I was just checking whether those things where going to happen in that forum and to see if it was acceptable. Thanks for your advice on the forum filter thing, now i know whats happening, I will make my descion.
