DannyStewart.com reopens

After over a week of being offline, the DannyStewart.com Forums have finally reopened. I've had a lot of time to consider what changes should be made to the site to prevent some of the incidents the site has experienced in recent weeks. In the end, I've decided that the site should deny guest access and prevent new registrations of any kind indefinitely. I am sure I will lift both of these restrictions at some point in the future, but for now, they will remain, to keep out unwanted visitors to the site.

Additionally, Jez has been promoted from a moderator on the site to an administrator, and Tom (MI7) has been granted moderator privileges. I have discussed this with both of them and I know they are both up to the task. I am also aware that there are others on the site who I'm sure can handle the responsibilities of being a moderator here, but while I want a strong presence of mods and admins, I would like to keep the number proportional and as a result I am not going to begin handing out moderator positions freely.

Still, with all that said and done, let's see if we can try and get this community back to normal. I feel it has deteriorated in the past few weeks, brought down by Daryl and his group of friends, which in turn brought out the worst qualities in the rest of us. Now that they're gone, hopefully things will settle back down here and this community will go back to the fun, relaxed, easygoing place it's always been (or tried to be).

Final word of advice though: Don't forget whose site it is. I expect my authority to be respected -- remember that.

Thanks, and enjoy the site.

It's good to be back, and hopefully everything will be back to how it was. Congratulations to Jez and Tom! :D

Ben Dawson May 25, 2007 4:07 PM

Congrats to MI7 and Jez, and don't worry, we wont forget...it's good to be back.

Jez May 25, 2007 4:24 PM

Damnit it Danny, I've only just managed fill up the extra hour of my life you gave back to me, now I'm gonna have even less free time. :P ;)

Danny Stewart May 25, 2007 4:34 PM

Haha, I'm sorry Jez. And now you have even more responsibilties, so it might be an hour and fifteen minutes now. :D

Jez May 25, 2007 4:54 PM

Dang. ;)

Pretty soon, the website of a gaming community/clan I'm a member of will be done. Unfortunately, being an XO, that means I'm gonna have piles of paper work to do every day. Even more once Crysis comes out, lol. ;)

Perhaps I should just forget job hunting. ;)

EDIT: ^^^ZOMG Three Winks in a Row!!! Here comes the star prize: A speed boat. All you need to do is give me your personal and bank account details, as well as those of your spouse.^^^

Ross Hendrie May 25, 2007 6:14 PM

I thought there were going to be new features? :(

Um... well, I never said anything about new features, and you shouldn't believe anyone else anyway. If you're not happy, I can always take the site back down.

That said, there is one new feature. The plus boxes next to thread titles when viewing forums. It shows the first post.

Recurring Villain May 25, 2007 7:44 PM

You can probably count having Daryl and Co. banned as a feature, too. Pity nobody saw it that way when I introduced it all that time ago ;__;. I was a Nazi.

///_-

Superkid11 May 25, 2007 10:47 PM

Is it weird that I went into some kind of withdrawl while this place was gone?
Oh well, good to see it back. :) Gratz to Jez and MI7. And here I was plotting to gun for RV's old position... :P
... why are there suddenly private forums? O_o The Radiophonic Workshop and Ask Dominic Glynn don't let you view any of the topics in them.

(Is three smilies in a post with small text mass too many?)

Apparently you're not the only one, so I'd have to say no, it's not weird. Well, not abnormal at least...

A lot of permissions seem to have broken lately. I apologize... just bring them to me as you notice them and I will fix them.

Ronnie Rowlands May 26, 2007 3:10 AM

Whoa wait a minute, we now have FOUR admins? I'd have thought that 2 admins and 2 moderators were sufficient. but oh well.

Who? May 26, 2007 8:50 AM

Its very good to be back:D

You read correctly.

Ronnie Rowlands May 26, 2007 10:23 AM

I wasn't asking if that was right, I was just suprised about it.

Woah. Four admins? Isn't that going a little overboard, Danny? I can't say I've ever been on a board with more admins than moderators.

Not really worth bitching about, but it is a little odd. You can't promote everyone to staff, Danny...

Nor do I want to.

Superkid11 May 26, 2007 10:56 PM

Hey, why not? :P On my dead board they're three admins, one is a good friend and the other's my girlfriend. A lotta you guys are on a RL-name basis too, so it makes sense.

Danny Stewart May 27, 2007 2:00 AM

Glad you understand, Superkid. And as for the rest of you, let's not forget rule number one.

My word is law here. I'm not taking any more crap for my decisions ever again. Consider yourselves warned.

Ross Hendrie May 27, 2007 12:55 PM

But I didn't criticise.

Danny Stewart May 27, 2007 2:20 PM

Well then it was for those who did. :P

Jez May 28, 2007 4:17 PM

Johnny Depp for the universal leader! (as Cap'n Jack......Sparrow...... ;))

BritCanuck May 29, 2007 1:45 AM

Nice to have Danny and the group back online.
I missed the boards a lot.
Congrats to everyone who got promoted.
Nice to have you back. ;)

No you don't.

And double posting is a big no-no, BritCanuck.

Triple posting is worse. This is an example of what not to do.

Here here!

Chris Britton June 6, 2007 10:05 AM

I am sorry for being late, i had not been informed the forums were back up :( and it was not helped because i was forced to restore my computer to factory settings thanks to a very horrible trojan virus.

As Ross, Ronn and Danny were aware, i am currently doing A-Level exams, so my time has been restrcited of late, i had hoped to nip back on but the forums closed before I got a chance too.

I am also sorry that i was not around to help keep order here, i so regret that and i was shameful to think people could stop so low to terrorise this site and give Danny the online equvilient to a kick in the teeth :( Although it did mean i did not take sides, and that may have caused more trouble, but i would like to say for the record my loyalty is to the well being of the forum and to my friends here :)

This is just a message to say i have not forrgoten about you lot again, and i am still here and hoping to make some more time avaliable so i can continue my moderator duties, and hopefully onces exam are over, oversee and develop the setup of the Torchwood RPG, the enthusiastic response I got was touching, and i am currently trying to develop some plot ideas I shall post on here within the next 2 weeks, as well as getting my character up.

again, i regret my absense, but it's just a matter of priorities at the moment, i will try to post when i can, and once exams finish on the 19th, thats over 10 weeks worth of free time i can then put a fair bit of into the develop of things here

It's good to have the greatest forum in the world alive and kicking again

Keep the faith friends :)

Chris

Ross Hendrie June 7, 2007 11:06 AM

Welcome back, Chris.

Chris Britton June 7, 2007 11:21 AM

Cheers Ross, hope your exams went well :)

Ross Hendrie June 7, 2007 11:51 AM

Indeed, they went okay but I'll have to wait and see.

Chris Britton June 7, 2007 1:09 PM

likewise :)
