Star Wars Technical Thread
Got a burning question about SW? How do you read those Imperial rank badges? How fast is a hyperdrive? What do you get when you cross Jar Jar and an Ewok? Curious, in dire need of an answer, or just messing around, it doesn't matter. Ask away.:P
What happens when you get a Tim Dalton lookalike and a redhead woman with wings and they get married... :P
Why was that Woman foolish enough to Date him in the first place :P
Max's attempt at a thread backfired. :P
LMAO!
Anyway, I have a problem reading Imp rank badges. Can you explain them please? |
Max, your thread has gone wrong :P

Anyway, Ross, you can read Imperial insignia with a little practice. There's a mathmatical formula that can apply to any insignia. Blue Squares=1 Red Squares=2 Gold Squares=2.5, unless it pairs with another gold, in which case each is 1.25 Standard Code Cylinders=-1 The Motti or "spark plug" cylinders=-0.5 Example: http://my-pages.net/files/misc/swvii/commander.PNGhttp://my-pages.net/files/misc/swvii/codecylinder1.gif Three red+Three blue+One Standard Cylinder=6+3-1=8. This is a Captain/Colonel. |
Uh, right it's going to take some time to memorise all that. Or I could bookmark this thread for reference lol.
That's a ridiculously complicated insignia pattern. Star Trek's pips are instantly more readable and universally recognizable. I'm surprised the x, y, and z variables aren't in that equation anywhere...
Actually Imp rank badges are infinately more logical. The Trek rank badges have a hollow black pip seemingly thrown in at complete random.
No, no, no! A black pip is equal to one-half of a gold pip! It makes perfect sense.
Gold = 1 Gold and Black = 1 and 1/2 Two Gold = 2 Two Gold and Black = 2 and 1/2 Ridiculously simple, no? It's not "thrown in at complete random," and it certainly isn't confusing. |
Yeah but what's 3 Gold and one Black, that's not in the series. And where is one Black on it's own? See it's thrown in at random.
