Couldn't agree more. You should always buy direct from Apple.
Also, why on Earth would you do a restore? Of course the applications are bound to an iTunes account. Apple does
everything through iTunes.

Not going to happen. They didn't do 8-16GB by choice; they can't fit more than that into a form factor that small. The next jump you see will be 32 GB.
