Intern: I've ascertained that the kids are into lense flares.

JJ: Lense flares?

Intern: According to the internet, lense flares are all the rage.

JJ: Excellent, get me a copy of photoshop. This is going to be the best movie ever.

He admits he overdid it with the lens flares. It was a bit much in places but overall not as bad as I feared. And it was a good movie.

Started brilliantly, however the whole alternate future thing got a bit weird. Overall though, it was a step in the right direction to reviving Star Trek.

It made pretty much perfect sense. You're lucky we got a writing team who bothered to explain the changes at all.

I'm not saying it was poorly explained, I'm just saying it was weird that they decided to destroy Vulcan.

Great film, great acting, great pacing and a wonderful storyline, pretty much the best thing we have seen from Star Trek since they did First Contact, and DS9

That said destroying Vulcan took a lot of balls, and they pulled it off and was a delight to see Nemoy back for a final hurrah too.

Also happy with the alternative universe idea, thankfully 40 years of cannon has not been erased and now the actors are not bound by all that cannon to restrict their roles, which was what made Watchmen suffer.

Thanks, it's given me a chance to get back into Star Trek and as a result I have started to get DS9 on DVD, probably my least watched series from the TNG era but ranks as one of my favorites.

Also, it's been confirmed that the guy who played Kirk's dad in the film has been cast as Thor in the upcoming film about the Marvel Comics hero.

I am not an avid Star Trek follower but after seeing the film, I just thought it was utterly brilliant. The acting was top notch so was the directing. Some of the in jokes I didn't quite get yet but that is because I am not a follower.

Everything just seemed to be so seamless. However the aleternate reality story running throughout it to be honest gave me a bit of a headache. Overall I thought it was just a brilliant film and I think I am a Star Trek convert.

Dude, what the fuck. Deep Space Nine was amazing. You don't want people going back to, say, Voyager, but DS9 is totally safe.

Anything from DS9 and before is completely safe, with the exception of Star Trek V and some episodes from TNG Series 1 and 2.

As for Voyager, it didn't fall as low as Enterprise but it was a sign of things to come. At the very least wait until you have watched everything prior to it. Just don't watch Threshold.
