Tom's Bored Creations

Thanks to Jez for the title idea .

Basically instead of making new threads all the time I'll just stick any new audio things I make in here for you guys to comment on.

Here's a few new things to start the topic off. A slightly altered version of the album Love Don't Roam and Song For Ten.

Basically the story is, I saw a video on YouTube which had a different version of Love Don't Roam with a more prominent guitar at the opening. After trying many different things to try and achieive the same effect, I had almost given up, when by chance I put LDR through a vocal remover...! I mixed the two together to make the version I have now uploaded. I prefer it to the original .

The other new thing is the same technique applied to Song For Ten. Not only does the mixing now give the album version a similar effect to the original (with the slightly 'muffled' vocals), but also lets you hear some great instrumentation like an electric guitar and trumpet that were buried within the track on the original.

Love Don't Roam (DS.com version)
Song For Ten (DS.com version)

Enjoy!

New thing!

I know Danny did this with the new arrangement of the theme played at the CIN concert, but as far as I'm aware he never did it with the TCI "Encore" version.

So here's that verison with all the Derbyshire melody put back in (not the bassline though, I don't have that).

The timing is horrible on the original... the bassline is very hard to fit in. It works alright for the melody, but I couldn't get past the intro for the bassline... it just doesn't work. I think they started it too hurriedly.

It sounds out of key too. Speed up the Derbyshire bit, and fiddle with the pitch on either one of the samples (which ever sounds best).

Generally the Derbyshire samples shouldn't be screwed with (for sound reasons mostly, not blasphemy reasons -- although that's a good reason too, hehe).

Sorry to mention this here instead of over google talk, but I think Muzz did screw with the derbyshire samples to make them fit, and be in tune...

The bassline at least, I don't think he touched the melodies - and it shows in the tuning.

It's possible. But he's hardly a recommended idol for work on the Doctor Who theme anyway... His melody sounds too clean, too. I noticed that the other day.

Here's a crazy little experiment I've been doing the past few days. Originally I was just going to take the original Series Two theme and add odd bits to it like adding/amplifying the 'horn-like bending notes' and amplifying the flute sections, possibly adding some drums etc. Eventually after adding lots and lots I've ended up with this monster of a theme which, quite frankly, sounds a lot different to the original theme .

Note: I never really intended to release this but decided to do so to see what the reaction was . So it's by no means perfect/slightly coherent. (Honestly there's allsorts in here, I can't even remember exactly what I did for most of it).

Big big thanks to Danny for providing loads of Fools Gold bits and pieces to add in. Oh, and the gong.

Might update a few things later.

He's already named it, Ben. How about you comment on his work instead?

ok, ok.
It's a funny rendition, quite different, but don't stop making these remixes, they're brilliant.

Big, breathing dollop of audio visionary genious.

The only improvement would be to swap the gong for a cow bell!! Can't beat a good cow bell.

Wonderful! That sounds great!
I agree with Jez - A cow bell would be perfect.

I'll see if I can find a cowbell in my orchestra software somewhere. I might have to wait until a few more of the libraries I'm downloading finish.

EDIT: Grr... Over 150 GB of samples, you'd think I'd be able to find a cowbell in here somewhere!

Well, I imagine they wouldn't sell exclusively cowbells... I don't think anyone can call themselves a "cowbell salesman."

RV might have some fun with this line of discussion.

"hello, I represent the Cow Bell Industrial Company (CBIC), would you be interested in buying some Cow Bells? Due to the over stock of cows, we are selling Cow Bells for the low low price of $1.50, we also sell in England, over there we sell them for about £3.00, and we are considering selling them in Australia among other places. We are currently enjoying success on the internet, they are a must have for any forums. Now we are selling software with Cow Bell samples. Let me leave you our card, it has our number on and it's freecall, you can find our full appliances there, also it has our website on there http://www.bell-outlet.com/cowbells.htm . Thank you for your time".
