Downtime...

Hi everyone. As you can see, the prolonged downtime for the site is now at an end. That's the good news. However the bad news is I still don't know what the problem was and I didn't do anything to fix it. I looked all over and I knew what the problem was but not where it was happening (and I checked the places it had to be happening and it wasn't happening there)! I'm so confused. So we're essentially running on hope that whatever happened was a fluke and will not happen again. Ever. Because if it does I honestly don't know what to do about it except wait it out again.

Probably something to do with your webhost. Annual maintenance perhaps? Or just a simple error.

Either way: Yay! You're back on!

That's the problem, Jez. I am my web host. I run everything off my own server. And I checked the server -- the problem definitely wasn't there.

Perhaps connectivity? Did your ISP have any problems? Downed phonelines/upped cables?

No, the server was physically up as I could access it by IP address. It was something to do with DNS, although DNS appeared to be working. Very confuddling.

You overloaded the DNS with awesome.

Could have been a DDoS from someone who didn't like Doctor Who.

Keff McCulloch heard we were dissing him, and managed to learn teh putermashine in a few hours. He then hacked the site before returning to his mountains of movie scoring work he has to do.
