Vista is worth more than XP, meaning you can trade your laptop in for a

Well, like I said before, my mom actually hasn't had any problems at all yet. I think Vista performs better on PCs that are built to its specifications(Macs are secretly built to Vista's specifications as well... apparently Vista ran really well on a Macbook)
Have you had any problems?

Just bad sound to be honest. I was going to get a external sound card but theres to many wires sticking out of my laptop at the mo.
I live in fear of doing to this one what i did to my old one. Tip sticking a active power cable into the wrong socket is a very very stupid thing to do £400 quid down the toilet..... my only defence is it was dark and i was tired.

It's a Vista PC.

Darwin help her.
Chances are very good that she wasn't given a choice - Microsoft has some kind of arrangement with all major retailers, so as soon as Windows Vista was released, they all took Windows XP off the shelves and now refuse to sell it or any earlier Microsoft operating system. All new computers also now come with Vista pre-installed - the customer doesn't have any say in the matter. Only force-feeding is more ruthless than that.

I still have Windows XP, and it works fine with all the older programs I have. One of the major problems with Vista is its lack of backwards compatibility - many older programs designed for the XP system or earlier simply will not run on Vista, because Vista blocks them for one reason or another. More marketing by Microsoft, I think - but the new editions or go without. I'm not impressed by their tactics at all.

Anyway, keep checking in with your mother, and if anything goes wrong, try taking the computer into a specialist dealer and have the thing reversed to XP.

Hope that helps.

I'd give my mom the pirated disk I still have, but then I'd get in huge trouble.

Just because you "don't have problems" doesn't mean the operating system is suddenly good. It's still Microsoft, it's still poorly designed, it's still Big Brother, watching and controlling what you do. Just because it doesn't crash while it's doing it is hardly something to get excited about.

And Macs are not "secretly built to Vista's specifications." They just make really good computers. Vista runs well on good computers. Apple doesn't give two figs what Microsoft thinks of their hardware specifications.

Crysis + Vista = DirectX 10
DirectX10 + Crysis =

Therefore, with regards to the above expressions: Vista =

Whatever. So Microsoft's manipulating gaming users. That doesn't make the OS better. I still use it. I just hate it.

Crysis being the most clear example of it. If you need more proof check the amount of slinging I gave that game. I should have added that it's ONLY for windows, those bastards.
