How would you describe DSF?
Tony Gallichan of the Whocast has graciously offered to put in a plug for DSF on an upcoming episode of the Whocast podcast, and he wants me to give him a brief description of what the site is and what it has to offer. The truth is, I genuinely don't know what to say. What would you all say about the site if you were asked to introduce it to potential friends who might be interested?

I'd say this: "We're a nice little community that is usually civil... but if you're used to a very lawful board you may be in for a shock. We've grown so used to each other that we seem to ignore rules most of the time. Topics veer off topic, sometimes with very little discussion of the actual topic done. We swear when we're not supposed to. We pretty much ignore six of our rules on a regular basis. This is mostly not a problem since we usually all tolerate it and there are no consequences. Problems tend to arise when new users expecting a perfectly lawful environment arrive.
Basically, we're good for the most part but you may see sides to us you don't like. Fortunately, if you're unable to take this in your stride, Recurring Villain is likely to either scare you away for force you to adapt. He's like our security guard."
Maybe not the best thing to say but that's what I'd say.

I was afraid something like that was going to come out. I think before the wave of publicity we should go around cleaning up some old threads and posts.

Why? I think honesty is a good policy here.
And now that I think of it, "border patrol" may be a better title for RV.

Perhaps so, but there's just a bunch of off topic stuff that does no good to anyone. I don't want it removed just because of the publicity, but because it's just useless and there's no point leaving it around.
Also, he wants to know what the site is and what we offer -- not what's wrong with it. You didn't really say anything at all about that. People who have never heard of us will just be like "um... what?"

Good point. Sorry.
You should say that we offer a surprisingly immersive community and often discuss either Doctor Who or technology. Sometimes politics. Stargate used to be a topic but it kind of... died on us.
Yeah, I'm a little in the grey on that too. You said yourself that we don't have much of a main focus anymore...

Yeah, I don't really care what we talk about here, to be honest. It's all very open, and I like it that way. We're very community-based more than anything.

Ooh, even more plugs, nice!
Be sure to mention that we offer the episode reviews / rating / discussion. Also all the audio creations and other creative aspects that people talk about here, gaining advice and knowledge from others.
That really wasn't worded as.. eloquently as I meant, but I think you get the idea. Creative corner / outlet / etc.
Maybe also mention we have the privilege of having mister Glynn as a guest poster?

Just say we're like the mafia. If you get on our good side it can be good for you, but if you piss us off... NERD RAGE.

I'll say that at the end of my description. People should be reminded that we're really the most powerful force on the internet.

I will describe the forums as a hub and a haven for all those who like Doctor Who but hate Murray and wish to express that love and hate safely.

Except we don't all hate Murray and RTD on here .
Hang on, Tony Gallichan? Isn't he the fellow who goes by the name "MacFayden" on Whomix?

IIRC, he narrated the 'Mr.Dalek' Christmas story. All very good stuff. Another Whomixer who has gone far.

Macfadyan, actually -- you got your "y" and "d" switched.
