I noticed the same thing, although strictly speaking the iTunes 8 upgrade is independent of the Mac OS X 10.5.5 upgrade.
But yeah, the interface for the new grid view is very much inspired by the iPhone.

Since upgrading it seems to be starting up with a lot of the desktop distorted. Yeah, it goes back to normal when a window covers it or I select it, but it's still rather confusing. Onyx says everything's fine...

You mean in the Grid view? You've selected Artists, correct? Once you select Artists from the top, all your artists should show up. Make sure it's not set to Albums.

How do you mean distorted? Are there any additional updates available in Software Update? Have you restarted a few times? Repaired permissions? Cleared temp files, etc.? Can you post a picture?

Its definitely on Artists but some won't show up!
I've noticed one or two are from a compilation album but Gracenote automatically gave the track names and artists so its not under various artists or soemthing!

Like this:

Only a part of it of course. The glitched up parts start out all over the screen except for the icons.

Eep. That's really weird. Seems like a graphics glitch of some kind but I'm not sure what's causing it.
I'd advise you to post here with your problem: http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=69
Hopefully someone there will be able to help you.

It's got to be a categorization issue. Check the tags on the songs whose artists don't show up properly -- it's likely that you have Artist and Album Artist set differently, or something like that.

Oh Yeah it could be an album artist thing!
Thanks!

Genius will get better with time, as more and more people start to use it.

I was about to do that, because repairing permissions didn't seem to help. (I restarted once after doing it and it still came up messed up.) However, it seems to have stopped now... either I had to restart more than one time after repairing permissions or it was because I cleaned up my desktop. ... yeah, I let it get cluttered again for a while. ;_;

Don't assume repairing permissions is some magic fix-all. It's not. It wouldn't fix a graphics problem like that, nor would it fix most such issues.

I know. I was going to do a full-on disk repair.
Fact remains though that I stopped getting it after I cleaned up my desktop. Which is kind of hilarious.
... well, also after I did this other update. It was a Remote Desktop and... something else(I think it was Garrageband or something).
