If I was to work on a Strategy Game...

...this is the kind of music I would make.

A friend of mine is planning to start a game development studio to develop a strategy game which he and another friend have been planning. He said if he gets it off the ground he'd fly me over to the Land of the Free and I'd get to work as a sound designer (woo!).

Knowing my luck he'll probably end up a homeless bum on the street and I'll just get some boring job somewhere doing pure boring for Boring Corporation in the United States of Boring, but I thought it would be an interesting exercise to try and compose strategy-game sounding music anyway... so I did.

I've done four so far;

The Human "Building" Theme
The Human "Defeat" Theme
The Human "Victory" Theme
The Collective "Building" Theme

The Humans are Human. The Collective aren't. Mkay?

Please download, listen and tell me what you think of them.

Also, thanks to Danny for helping me out with an unfinished one.

Those are magnificent, RV! Congratulations! "The Collective Theme" is very eerie!

I love the "human" themes, I can see the main triad there, very catchy...they would fit in very well in a strategy game (maybe in the style of the AOE games).

Those are very good, RV. Best of luck with this new development!

EDIT: If I may offer my opinion on the Human Victory theme... it sounds a bit unfinished. Too many high frequencies and not enough low ones. It also sounds just a bit too happy... almost goofy. I recommend attempting to counterbalance it with some lower instruments. Not too much... just a bit. The way it sounds right now is just a bit off-kilter, that's all. It also doesn't sound like it does enough, if that makes sense. Your defeat theme seems a bit more developed. Might be something to take a look at... hope that's helpful to you in some way.

EDIT #2: To echo what Dalek said, your Collective theme is very eerie. That one in particular is exceptional, although I enjoyed them all.

Sorry I dropped off on you last night. It was nearly 4 am and I was very tired. I am still working with the project file you sent me and I'll inform you of developments!

Thanks, Dalek!

I sort of envisioned it more like Total Annihilation. The game is a science fiction. I probably should have said that in the first post

Goofy? I agree; that's why I decided to make a different, more "dramatic" theme, which is the one I've asked you for help with, because I can't get staccato notes to sound dramatic for the life of me

It's my favorite, too.

No problem, Danny. I appreciate your help at any time of day
