My computer won't play a certain video file

NB: Posting this in here as I can't seem to post a topic in Problem Solving
Right; I am a member of a small community called The Warzone 2100 Resurrection Project. It is for a team of people who continue to mod and develop the RTS Warzone 2100 since it became Open Source.

Now I volunteered to take a look at the games FMV Scenes to see how they can improve them. Getting them improved is not easy since the original files were lost when they game became open source, so on the latest version released they are of lower quality than the rest of the game. I was able to secured a download of the file off one of the members of which I have quited bellow and includes the download link:
My problem is that i have downloaded but an unable to play the files in anything I have, iTunes never brought it up, Windows Media Player claimed it either couldn't support it or the codec used to compress it. Quicktime didn't recognize it. VLC plays it without any audio or video This may be due to the type of file but I need to be able to take a look at these scenes.

Can anyone recommend something to open this damm thing and get it playing?

Grab at least the Standard pack, if not the Full pack. Install that and you should be all set.

Alternatively you could always grab VLC and play it using that.

Not through a post on the forums. Hit me up on Twitter or send me an email so I can fix it right away.

EDIT: This has been fixed. The forum had "Forum is Open for New Posts" set to no, bizarrely.

A lot of people seem to think mPlayer is better than VLC. I don't know whether that's really true or not, but it does seem to load faster in my experience.
(Note: The Mac version on that site sucks . This is where to go for the Mac version. )

Dude, fuck mPlayer and VLC. QuickTime is the only way to watch videos on a Mac.

mPlayer is the same way. I haven't had to install any codecs or anything.
Then again it might be different for the Windows version.

For the noobcaptain, though, QT is probably sufficient. Just don't be surprised when it doesnt recognize that bluray rip you downloaded off TPB.

 | Sir, Perian is all I have to say. http://perian.org/
Perian makes QuickTime just as able as VLC, but keeps the nice Mac UI and integration.

It is because of Perian that I do not feel the need to touch anything other than QuickTime, ever, period.
